Here’s some pencils for that illustration for the Beyond anthology. It’s almost doubled its goal!!!
I pencil real light so it looks really clumsy when the contrast is adjusted but you get the idea.
Really happy with this illustration, based on the Unicorn in Captivity tapestry, and maybe a little inspired by black-velvet paintings of unicorns.

I couldn’t find a place in NYC that does large-format scanning for any reasonable amount of money, so I scanned the Orrery drawing myself in like 15 parts. It took a long time.
Here are some more process images: cleaning up linework, blocking everything out in flat colors, and marking some layers of distance to work with later. More nitty-gritty coloring details soon.
Tying it together. Inks are done now; the whole drawing is about 20 by 30 inches. Tried to push the linework in the foreground to make it bolder and more foreground-ish, and I think it reads the way I want it to.
I looked real hard for a large-format flat scanner in NYC and can’t find one that will cost me less than $100 to have this scanned, so I’m going to scan it in several parts and stitch together myself. Colors are the next big step! I have some ideas but might do some quick mockups to see what looks right.
