Another warmup/practice sort of thing.

I really like the Lord of the Rings; I think it is my favorite book. Books? Peter Jackson’s movies are the conduit through which pop culture has become familiar with LOTR, and I think that for all their imperfections, the visual world those movies present is virtually flawless. It’s an interesting approach to worldbuilding– making a visual context for a textual story, which fits the tone of the original and emphasizes it, without bringing anything really new to it. But anyway I’d like to draw some of the characters as I see them, or as I’d like to see them if it weren’t for those movies overpowering my own images of the book.

I’ve drawn a couple more of these and will put them up when colored.

Edit- I forgot to mention that what made me start working on this was reading Sam Bosma’s excellent blog, which is lately full of a lot of work for his illustrations of the Hobbit for Picture Book Report.
